Well, the time is nearly here to say goodbye to our Adriatic Adventures. However, it is time to turn the tables a bit and ask everyone to participate. This will be less scary than zip lining through the Cetina River valley or white-knuckled driving around Kotor Bay. If you are up to a challenge, read to the end of this post for instructions. If not, please enjoy the final post of our Adriatic Adventures (an Anderson/Pehler Production).
Even though today was all about flights, delayed flights, rerouted flights and exploring Marco Polo International airport in Venice, there are still some things to share, so here we go.
We started our day of travel by waking to learn that our flight from Venice to Atlanta was delayed a couple of hours, meaning we wouldn't make our connecting flight to Minneapolis. So what do you do when presented with an issue like that, you eat. Actually, we were already heading to the hotel restaurant for breakfast before our shuttle to the airport, so my natural instinct was at least timely.

We made it through more than half the game and decided to use our vouchers since we weren't able to check-in. Now, I am all about eating and have posted numerous photos of our meals, but this one may take the cake (pun intended). Who knew that 22€ vouchers could go so far at an airport restaurant? Two salads, grilled vegetables, diced potatoes, chips and salsa (2x), three pizzas and two desserts, all within our voucher budget for four. We actually asked them not to bring the desserts, as neither we nor the table could hold any more. The before picture is all I can post, as the carnage of the devestated plates is just too much for you to witness or me to relive.
After the feast, we were off. We got our boarding passes and learned that our 50 minute cushion in Amsterdam was starting to disappear with another short delay. We were told the connecting flight would wait for us, which was a little hard to believe. By the time we landed in Amsterdam, the gate was already closing on our connecting flight, but the Captain announced that our flight would wait. Even with that assurance, the four of us had the opportunity to jog at least part way through the terminals of the airport. It was like a scene from a movie, but there was no soundtrack or slow motion scenes, but there was a security search waiting for me. But with me successfully clearing the screening, the four of us boarded and were off to Minneapolis.
It was smooth sailing from there on...oops, it wasn't. Carmen, Michelle and Tom were sitting in one row, including another passenger between Carmen and Michelle and I was one row in front of Carmen. After we took off and a few times during our cruise across the North Atlantic, I noticed that Carmen was getting up a number of times, only to find out that the passenger sitting next to her was ill. By the time we landed, we were asked to remain seated as the EMTs came aboard to assist with her and another passenger. Note - we did see the ill passenger getting into a car, so hopefully felling better soon.
The final blip on our day of travel was that one of the bags decided to hang back in Amsterdam a little longer than the rest. As we were running through the airport it must have decided to take it easy and grab a coffee. The bag's extended stay should be done soon and delivered to it's home tomorrow.
Our final post is now complete! How can our Adriatic Advntures be coming to an end? This journey has been an absolute blast and Carmen and I are so fortunate to have been part of an amazing 25th Anniversary celebration! Congratulations Tom and Michelle!
P.S. Now for the audience participation portion of the show. As I have been posting these stories, I have been thinking that I would love to know to which location you would want to travel if time and cost were not a factor? So here is what I was thinking...Please comment on this post with your answer. If you have pictures or descriptions or maps or just a name, feel free to post it and let's see where folks would like to go.
